A weekday story habit for Indian families abroad, when school is in English and grandparents are on another clock.
School will do English thoroughly. Friends will do it even more. A heritage language stays if it is useful on a Tuesday. Ten minutes of a story is a Tuesday. A Sunday crash course that ends in tears is a performance.
The clock
Grandparents in India are often asleep during bedtime in the US or the UK. A story is not a video call. Call when both sides are awake. On the other nights, the child still hears the language. In the UAE the weekend is often Friday and Saturday, and summer pushes play indoors. Put the story on a school night. Do not save the whole language for the weekend. What you can press play on
Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, English. Malayalam is widely spoken in the UAE and is not in Hey Minie. Tamil is not in it either. Check the Google Play listing on your own account for Android.
